Ready to repair?
Can anyone fix watches?
There were jobs for the sewers, miscellaneous fixer and bike safety checker. The idiom ‘Steady as you go’ fitted the November Repair Cafe perfectly until a customer brought in a watch to be repaired. We didn’t have a watch repairer. We need one. Is there a watch mender with a couple of ours to spare who would like to volunteer at the Repair Cafe?
Pen fixer
What do people usually do when their pen runs out of ink, needs a refill or the spring fails and the retractable bit will stop retracting? Who will fix it? At the Repair Cafe Nigel was ready and would have loved to, but he had none! However he enjoyed being part of the Repair Team and may be available again.

Knee or Lap tray
Alan, the Repair Cafe Miscellaneous Fixer, patiently repaired a Lap tray frame that had fallen apart. It can be difficult to find someone to do repairs but the owner had kept the parts and Alan glued them together so it looks good and is useable again.

Learning how to repair Ted
Learning how to stitch could be useful so Maissie watched Jennifer repair Ted, the teddy bear she loves. While she watched her mum talked with Jennifer and told her that Maissie is in the Guides. Jennifer said she likes to teach and offered to teach at the Guides. Maissie’s mum said she would let them know.
This is what the Eco Group does. It brings people together. Jennifer showed Maissie how to stitch her teddy and now Jennifer has volunteered to show all the Guides. Learning to sew will be useful and who knows some Guides may volunteer to sew in the Repair Cafe one day.

Jennifer has also volunteered to help Liz with sewing in her Good Life Schools project.
Bike Safety Checker at the November Repair Cafe
Marc safety checked the bike pictures.
Marc shifted 3 bikes to Route 1 earlier this month and said a friend of his has 3 more to take. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all let people know about Route 1, the Repair Cafe and all the other good things the Group does. Please let your voice do the talking. WORD OF MOUTH GOES A LONG WAY!
Almost volunteered
Electrical Repairer
We do not have a volunteer to do small electrical jobs but we may have one soon. We were approached by someone who is preparing for retirement and looking for jobs to fill in his time. He was unsure but will think about it and hopefully after Christmas and before the next Repair Cafe he will have decided to join.
We are always looking for new volunteers of any skill or trade. Please call of you want to try.
I’ll point out that volunteers have come and gone in the past, mostly due to getting suitable paid employment. We miss them but wish them well.

Team talk
The big question is, When will we have a Craft Workshop? We would like one but need more crafty people to joint the Team first.
Customer talk
One customer talked about his watch. One talked about litter picking and about white goods. One from far away Cambridge talked about some of the things they have to reduce waste but when he read GEN, the Guisborough Eco News he said ‘You have everything’. Another customer, from Redcar, read what Guisborough is doing to reduce waste in GEN and said, “We don’t have anything like that’.
Guisborough and the Eco Group should be proud of what we are doing to reduce waste but ask, can we help all of Redcar and Cleveland to copy us?
