Saturday July 27th had its first Repair Cafe soft toy hospital. I don’t think we’ve had this much fun since we were kids. Bear repairs made the children happy and happiness is infectious. The board was left at the door to let visitors know that the hospital was inside and the ladies went in to set up the ‘hospital’ beds.

Posing before treatment

A few bears were flat out

The volunteers are treating well loved teddy bears to some extra TLC. The Repair Cafe has grown in popularity and the volunteers aim to add other activities in the future. They are talking about using Curtain Boutique remnants to make things like lavender bags, hand and neck and body warmers and draft excluders. They also plan to give children and adults lessons in needlecraft – nothing too complicated, but that will give learners confidence to pick up a needle and sew.

The aim of the Group is to improve sustainability and repairing items so they can be reused is really sustainable. We need more volunteers. We would like you to come along, see what you think and volunteer if you can. She can tell us of her many experiences, including getting a hedgehog highway constructed in New Marske. It is a system of tunnels to allow hedgehogs safe passage through gardens of new homes. She can importantly remind us what we can do to encourage them into our gardens and keep them safe.

Copyright © 2024 by Fred Page

On behalf of the Eco Group

(recently renamed GUISBOROUGH and District ECO GROUP)

Best wishes from Jemma and Fred

[182,1

post-1655","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-category-repair-cafe","category-uncategorised
Category: Repair Cafe Uncategorised
["GET
