Frayer and Colin from the Environment Agency set up a stall, in the Repair Cafe, that attracted lots of interest. They were looking for volunteer Community Flood Wardens who would act in case of flooding in the Guisborough area. They talked with visitors and rated their visit as worth while.

Frayer will be speaker at a future Guisborough Eco Group meeting. TBA

She would be happy to conduct a Zoom meeting for the benefit of members who are physically unable to come to the meetings. If you are interested please get in touch.

Quick start to the day.

The latest Repair Cafe advertising suggested people could come for the refreshments and watch the volunteers at work. The doors opened at 9.30am and a bus-load streamed in!

The Repair Cafe volunteers were kept busy as usual sewing, fixing and bike checking. Only one bike and a 20 year old hand mixer could not be repaired.

A guy called J generously offered to supply vegetarian meals for free. He will contact The Bridge, the local charity which provides meals for elderly people.

J offered to supply meals for Group parties and said they go down well with music etc.

“Reduce waste, reuse jars – small actions make big impacts”

The Eco Group recognised Rosalind’s Larder a long time ago because of her Eco Friendly advert, ‘Reduce waste, reuse jars – small actions make big impacts’. She is so Eco Friendly, she makes preserves with surplus fruits and customers can take back their empty jars for her to reuse. If you have any of her jars please return them if you can.

Rosalind came to the Repair Cafe to donate an Electric Mandoline Slicer which she thought might help a small startup business. John, on the other hand, held up the Guisborough Eco Group ‘Climate Responsible Actions’ leaflet and pointed to ‘Donate it to Charity’. The leaflet is below!

What do you think?

She is looking for surplus plums so please let her know if you have any.

Fruit Pickers?

Lots of people do not even pick the fruit they grow, it is wasted. Can something be done to gather the fruit and donate it?
Should the Eco Group look for a Fruit Picker Team?

Would you like to be informed?

It is always interesting to listen to people when they come to meetings and the Repair Cafe and find out what they don’t know as well as what they do. It is sad to hear that politicians and councillors are not providing advice about TV ERF, the incinerator that Guisborough Eco Group cofounder deemed, ’costly and risky’ because it is costly and risky!

Copyright © 2025 by Fred Page

On behalf of the Eco Group

Best wishes from Jemma and Fred

Looking for Community Flood Wardens The Environment Agency is looking for Community Flood Wardens.
