  1. About 27 June Repair Cafe

People were eager to have their sewing repairs done by the volunteers and as number of repairs grew so did our concern that we needed more volunteers to do them all. Fortunately a new volunteer joined the team and everything did get done!

Some of the repairs the volunteers did

A radio proved to be more unusual than most. It was brought in because it wasn’t working but worked when the fixers plugged it in.

Advice to visitors

We’ve always said, don’t dispose of anything until you’re sure it is not repairable. Bring it to the Repair Cafe to be checked. Someone brought in their radio because ‘it wan’t working’ but when the fixers plugged it in it worked. The fixers also found that someone had the wrong lead for their radio so it might work with the right one.

2. In the Craft Corner

While Alan kept playing the keyboard waiting for people to ask to play Anne in the silk painting and Steve and woodcarving sections set up ready for a productive day and positive interest. They hope that parents, carers and grandparents will bring young people to see what they are doing and have a go, but appreciate it must be difficult.

(Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. It is the law!)

Next month we hope to have the silk painter and woodcarvers but the keyboard player will not be back until August. Why not ask to demonstrate your hobby, you’ll have fun and someone might like to try it.

3. In the Future

We hope to have the silk painter and woodcarvers in July but will not have the keyboard player again until August. You could take a place in the Craft Corner to demonstrate your hobby. Why not ask? You’ll have fun and someone else might love it.

Volunteering can make you happy. If you have an interest in work helping the community for a couple of hours each month why not join the Repair Cafe Volunteers. You will be welcome.

To volunteer or take a place in the Craft Corner you can contact me at the next Repair Cafe on 25 July or email hello@guisboroughecogroup.co.uk

I’m not sure but one day we may have a singer to encourage more people to sing but let’s see what happens.
